The ratio S/V - Do more with less
One question often comes up when discussing algae production: the volume of the photobioreactor
But production capacity is not only about volume, it’s also about how efficiently that volume is used
Thanks to our scalable SALT (Spiral Air Lift Tubular) technology and its enclosed lighting chamber that prevents light losses and maximising light use efficiency, our photobioreactors can reach concentrations 10 to 15 times higher than traditional systems!
How?
By maximising the illuminated surface area / useful culture volume ratio, which is a key performance indicator for algae cultivation systems. The higher this ratio, the more efficient the system :
- Traditional systems: ratio between 3 and 10
- Synoxis algae photobioreactors: ratio above 68
This means producing more biomass at higher quality, while using less water, fewer nutrients and less electricity. It also requires less space, less time and less labour
In microalgae production, volume isn’t everything. Productivity is!
Do more with less !
