The density sensor developed by Synoxis algae automates the sampling and online monitoring of your biomass without destroying the sample.

Compatible with all strains of microalgae and cyanobacteria, its bypass design ensures reliable and accurate monitoring of growth over time.

Connect it to NANO, LUCY or JUMBO to centralise data on the controller. You can also use it independently on your culture systems and easily extract your experimental data.

How does it work ?

An automated measurement

The density sensor automates sampling regardless of your reactor type.
A sample is taken, analysed at 880 nm, then reinjected into the system.

This bypass operation allows continuous, accurate and non-destructive monitoring of the biomass. It also provides:

  • Significant time savings on growth measurements
  • Automatic 24-hour monitoring even at high densities (up to 15g/L dry mass)
  • A reduction in handling errors (sampling, external analysis, etc.)
  • A better understanding of culture dynamics

An efficient user interface

The sensor can be used independently and has its own screen for viewing the measured density.

Use the screen to configure your sensor:

  • Punctual or continuous density measurement
  • Choice of sampling frequency
  • Sensor calibration
  • Data extraction

Easy maintenance and cleaning

The bypass function allows you to easily disconnect the sampling and measurement circuit at the end of or during cultivation.

This allows you to clean, sterilise (autoclave or chemical) or recalibrate it if necessary before reconnecting it to the reactor, without disrupting your installation or compromising sterility.

Spare parts for the sampling network are available from our catalogue to ensure the continuity and durability of the system.

Compatibility with NANO, LUCY and JUMBO

Connected to our photobioreactors, the density sensor communicates directly with the controller for centralised data management:

  • Synchronised density display on the photobioreactor interface
  • Automatic data recording and backup on the controller
  • Culture in turbidostat mode, with automatic dilution to maintain the target density

The sensor is also compatible with Cleaning In Place protocols on NANO, LUCY and JUMBO.

Frequently asked questions

Can the density of fragile microalgae be measured?

Of course! The sensor is designed to work with all types of microalgae and cyanobacteria without damaging them!

How to calibrate the density sensor?

As with a spectrophotometer, calibrate the density sensor with water and nutrients.

If the sensor is connected to NANO, LUCY or JUMBO, calibrate the sensor after the cleaning in place program and before inoculation.

Does the sensor work in all types of environments?

The density sensor can be used in aquaculture environments as well as in research laboratories. It is resistant to corrosion and humid environments!
