Synoxis algae emerged from the Nantes-based plastics manufacturer Synoxis. Synoxis, created in 1982, is a subcontractor specialised in custom-made products and has different techniques for transforming plastic materials (machining, forming, blowing, etc.). Their fields of application are diverse: industry, boating, medical, and research.
Working for companies in the microalgae sector for more than 20 years, they have gained experience in the construction of customised cultivation systems such as tanks, raceways, photobioreactors, etc.
Following a meeting with IFREMER Nantes and the University of Nantes, they participated in 2003 in a thesis on the “Design and study of a photobioreactor dedicated for continuous production of microalgae in hatcheries”. This thesis resulted in a prototype, but it was not marketable at the time.
