A culture of innovation
Our history
Photobioreactors designed for over 30 years
Synoxis algae is part of plastics manufacturer Synoxis based in Nantes, an expert in custom solutions with a range of expertise in plastics processing (machining, forming, blow molding, etc.). Its areas of application include industry, boating, medicine, and research.
Having worked with industries and researchers in the microalgae sector for over 30 years, Synoxis has acquired experience in the production of customised culture systems such as tanks, raceways, photobioreactors, etc.
Our photobioreactors and their manufacture
100% made in France
Following a meeting with IFREMER Nantes and the University of Nantes, Synoxis participated in a thesis in 2003 entitled “Design and study of a photobioreactor for the continuous production of microalgae in aquaculture hatcheries.” This thesis resulted in a prototype, but one that was not marketable at the time. The idea of developing its own photobioreactor began in 2015.
Building on the expertise developed and user feedback, LUCY, the first series-produced photobioreactor equipped with SALT technology, was launched in 2017. The company Synoxis algae was founded a year later.
Today, all our series-produced photobioreactors are manufactured at our production site in Nantes, in the Pays de la Loire region.
Our laboratory and our innovations
Making microalgae culture easy
We have set up a laboratory on our site to test our equipment and put ourselves in our users’ shoes. This proximity to the production site enables us to carry out complex, innovative, and even tailor-made projects.
Throughout the year, we test strains, optimize culture parameters, and develop robust solutions to make microalgae production easier, safer, and more efficient.
With more than 170 installations worldwide, Synoxis algae is now one of Europe’s leading designers and manufacturers of photobioreactors, meeting the needs of aquaculture, industry, education, and research.
