“We acquired LUCY to transform the way we work, taking into account the challenges associated with aquaculture. LUCY allows us to easily cultivate and harvest microalgae on a daily basis. Switching from traditional microalgae production systems to several LUCY units has enabled us to improve the ergonomics, cost, and productivity of our hatchery.
The use of photobioreactors also reduces the risk of MSDs (musculoskeletal disorders) among our teams, because the algae are cultivated in high concentrations, the volume harvested can be reduced, and therefore the weight we transport to other rooms is very low!
With LUCY, we obtain around 80 million cells per ml with a renewal rate of 20 to 30%. In tank culture systems, we only achieve around 15 million cells per ml, and in batches.
Cultures made with LUCY, particularly Tiso, have excellent mobility, which is an important quality criterion and also a sign of quality. Despite the high concentration and production environment, we maintain this mobility and can keep the crops growing for four months. We stopped growing after four months for maintenance purposes, but we could have kept them going for much longer!
What’s more, in the event of a power cut, the programs on LUCY restart automatically. There’s nothing to do! The autonomy is interesting and, for us, it’s a real guarantee of safety.
We highly recommend LUCY. Aquaculture is an ancient profession that evolves slowly, but we believe that the future lies here. With these tools, operators are farmers and specialists, not cleaners.”
