NANO, the photobioreactor

made for lab efficient customisable

NANO

The lab photobioreactor

NANO is a compact, sterilisable lab photobioreactor designed for easy cultivation of microalgae and cyanobacteria.

With one or two independent 3 L chambers, it allows multiple cultures to be run in parallel, with precise, automated control of all parameters.

Thanks to its advanced technology and full automation, NANO guarantees reliable, reproducible, and safe experiments all year round, regardless of the culture mode (batch, semi-continuous, or continuous).

Robust, easy to use, and fully instrumented, it is the ideal tool for accurate research, testing, and production.

Equipped with SALT technology

SALT (Spiral Air Lift Tubular) technology, developed by Synoxis algae, is based on gentle spiral agitation generated by injecting air into a closed tubular system. This design achieves concentrations 10 to 15 times higher than traditional systems!

  • Very high illuminated surface area/useful volume ratio (S/V = 68) for excellent light exposure
  • Uniform agitation that prevents the formation of biofilm
  • Closed-system to ensure culture longevity
  • Homogeneous LED lighting suitable for microalgae cultivation
  • Easy and secure culture launch with Starter mode
  • Direct and reproducible scale-up from lab to industry (NANO → LUCY → JUMBO)
  • Technology compatible with fresh water, brackish water and sea water

How does it work ?

A turnkey photobioreactor

Each photobioreactor comes with pipes, connectors, culture bottles, a silent compressor and a complete set of spare parts to ensure the continuity of your cultures regardless of your environment.

Upon receipt of NANO, users are provided with quick and easy support to get started:

  • Installation of the system directly in your laboratory
  • Personalised training according to your objectives and cultivation conditions
  • Launch of your first culture with our team

Start a culture with the Starter mode

SALT technology allows the photobioreactor to be started with a very small inoculum volume!

If necessary, 100mL is enough to start a culture with NANO, saving time at start-up and ensuring a clean and biosecure culture!

Scale-up is automated with the density sensor, and water and nutrients are added automatically!

Manage and harvest the culture

Like all our photobioreactors, NANO allows you to control the culture parameters:

  • Light intensity and photoperiod
  • Culture pH
  • Culture temperature
  • Air injection
  • CO2 injection
  • Nutrient, water, and silica injection
  • Sampling and harvesting

Choose the culture parameters that suit your strain and monitor the growth of the culture directly on the screen or remotely!

Automated cleaning

At the end of the culture, the CIP (Clean In Place) ensures automated cleaning without dismantling for the next strain.

It also provides an automated chemical disinfection of the chamber, and if necessary, it can also be sterilised in an autoclave!

In just a few hours, NANO is ready to start a new culture !

Our users share their experiences

“After three months of use, we can say that it is by far the most effective photobioreactor on the market.”

Ritmo Agroenvironnement

“It seemed quite complex at first. But that was before the training and the user guide that came with it.”

UCO Bretagne nord

“We were particularly impressed by the rapid growth of microalgae and the biomass obtained!”

Frequently asked questions

Can we cultivate fragile microalgae (which cannot withstand agitation)?

This technology has been developed specifically for the culture of fragile microalgae and, in particular, T-Iso, which is a shear-sensitive flagellated microalga. Thanks to gentle agitation, we can cultivate many different species of microalgae.

Can we cultivate in batch or continuous ?

Both! The technology and controller allow for batch, fed batch, semi-continuous, or continuous cultivation!

What do I need to put a PBR into operation?

  • Electricity for lighting and the control system
  • CO2
  • Saltwater or freshwater, depending on the strain
  • Nutrients
  • An inoculum

Depending on your facilities, we can also advise you on the most suitable location for your cultures and organise your workspace!
